The story

The Story

Polari Group is a Houston-based company building thoughtful apps for the LGBTQ+ community. Our name comes from Polari, an underground slang language used by gay men in 20th-century Britain — a coded vocabulary that allowed our community to find each other when finding each other was dangerous. We carry that history forward, building software that helps queer people connect with sophistication, dignity, and care.

We started Polari Group because the apps serving our community deserved to be made by people who understood it. Too much of what exists treats queer connection as a commodity. We’re building something different — products that feel considered, designed with restraint, and operated with care for the people who use them.

Our first product, Cruise, launched in Houston. More are coming. Each will carry the same values: respect for the user, sophistication in design, and a refusal to treat our community as anything less than worthy of excellent software.

How we work

The Approach

Every product begins with the same question: does this respect the person using it? We design with restraint — clean surfaces, considered typography, nothing that shouts. The result should feel calm in the hand, made by people who cared about the details.

We treat privacy as a foundation, not a feature. Location data is fuzzed by default. We do not sell attention, and we never will. Our community has spent long enough being treated as a market; we would rather treat it as an audience worth earning.

The Apps

Cruise is our first product — a map-first social platform for gay men, live in Houston. More apps are in development under Polari Group, each held to the same standard.

Team

Leadership

Polari Group was founded by Kennard Daniel. We’re a small team based in Houston, Texas, focused on building software that matters to our community.
